                 ¿WHAT IS ALKALI RESISTANT GLASS FIBER USED FOR?
 
Every concrete slab must be placed over a compacted soil. The dynamic and static loads will crack a concrete slab due to it's low resistance to flexural strength. Therefore we need to use elements that will increase the flexural strength of concrete, distributing homogenously the load and consequently relief tensions. This is primarily the work being performed by steel meshes as well as glass fibers added in concrete slabs. The aim is to sew concrete together, since it's tensile strength is only: 4 N/mm2
 
 
 
                                          Steel meshes, steel fibers or glass fibers will do basically the same job: 
 
       INCREASING THE FLEXURAL STRENGHT OF THE CONCRETE SLAB BY DISTRIBUTING CORRECTLY THE LOADS AND ABSORBING ENERGY GENERATED BY TENSIONS IN ORDER TO AVOID AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE CRACKS THAT MAY APPEAR.

Did you think that multifilament polypropylene fibers could substitute steel meshes?

The main function of multifilament polypropylene fibers is to retain the water that is inside the concrete mixture. This way can avoid cracking due to plastic shrinkage caused by quick drying of concrete.

However, multifilament polypropylene fibers cannot contribute to increase concrete fluxural strength to the point of replacing steel meshes in a concrete slab!
